The Prodigal Son’s Theme Song

I was simply browsing thru the net and then I saw the lyrics of a familiar song I heard before and it struck me.  Very profound.  It’s like this is the song of the prodigal son under the stink of the pig sty, remembering his father.

FIX YOU by COLDPLAY

When you try your best but you don’t succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can’t sleep
Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
COULD IT BE WORSE?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

And high up above or down below
When you’re too in love to let it go
But if you never try you’ll never know
Just what you’re worth

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Tears stream down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face
And I

Tears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face
And I

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you.

Moreso, when I was reminded of this excerpt from the Pulitzer (?) Prize-Winning Film, Young at Heart.  It reminded me, these are words we, all of us young and old, from the rocker to the conservative,  long to hear from Someone who has all the power to fix us, truly – down to the very core.

Fix Us Down to our Very Core.

Post Script: Incidentally, I was once tasked to preached regarding the Prodigal Son in Tagalog for our home church in Pampanga.
