A Prodigal God, A Prodigal Son, and a Prodigal Sermon

Two of my favorite authors wrote masterpieces about Luke 15 late last 2008.

The Prodigal God

This was Tim Keller’s masterpiece.  Actually I like it better than John Macarthur’s A Tale of Two Sons which becomes a bit pushy on the last part when it claims that the ending of the whole of it is murder.  Doubtless, there is some basis but that, to me is drawing too much.

A Tale of Two Sons

Nevertheless, it is vintage Macarthur.  Very textual and clear as Macarthur can get.

They also inspired me to see the linkage of the Prodigal Son’s tale with the text of 1 Cor 13, the famous LOVE Chapter.  Did I succeed in relating the two?  Here is my feeble attempt.

The Lord’s Supper and Salvation, Are they Related?

Do you yearn for the Lord Supper or is it just a routine done in church?

Do you celebrate your salvation or you’re already so used to it?

The two are closely-related.

I was invited last January to preach about the Lord’s Supper in a growing church in the rural outskirts of Pampanga.

I tried to show them that the Lord’s Supper is a picture of the saving work of Christ.

Where is the Love?

Black Eyed Peas just won some Grammy awards I heard.  One of the reason I love the band is because of APL, a Filipino from Pampanga.  Another reason I most especially like this band because of the song, Where is the Love.

Love, Love, Love is missing.  Even the Apostle Paul asked the same question with the Corinthian believers, though with different answers.

The Lord is gracious to allow me to preach a sermon with this same thought.  Click here to listen to it.

Abraham and Isaac and the Wonder of Christmas

Recently the Bible Reading is about Genesis 22.  Remember Abraham’s offering of Isaac? I was in the middle of reading this and then came an invitation for me to speak about the wonder of Christmas.

So can those two be related? I thought so.  Here is me last 2009 Dec, attempting to juxtapose the two themes together.

May you also be caught in wonder like I was.

The Kindness and Severity of God

Here’s a sermon I preached recently in Bacolod. It’s about the kindness and severity of God.  The longest Bible Reading perhaps that you would hear in a sermon.

It’s in tagalog though.  Sana’y pagpalain kayo despite the limitations.
